Abstract:

This research aims to analyze the relationship between the perceptions and knowledge of coastal communities in Tuban, East Java, Indonesia, regarding socio-economic adaptation to climate change. The survey method was used with a quantitative approach through questionnaires and interviews with 60 randomly selected respondents. SEM is used to evaluate the relationship between public perception and knowledge and socio-economic adaptation. The results show that public knowledge about climate change is in the medium category and does not significantly influence adaptation. On the other hand, public perception plays an important role in diversifying income sources, using technology, and increasing social cooperation. The conclusion shows that direct experience and community perception are key factors in building sustainable adaptation to the impacts of climate change, such as rising sea levels and extreme weather. On the other hand, perception is one of the key factors in determining adaptive strategies such as income diversification, adoption of new technologies, and cooperation within the community. Moreover, the study stresses the fact that socio-economic adaptation is more attitudinal, involving actions of changing one’s livelihood due to environmental.
