Abstract:

This study investigates the role of ChatGPT as a platform for expressing negative emotions during self-directed, long-term learning. By analyzing the emotional expressions of a learner studying statistics, the research explores how these emotions influence the learning process and examines ChatGPT’s potential as a supportive tool for mitigating emotional challenges. The findings suggest that engaging with ChatGPT provides a valuable outlet for expressing negative emotions, which may help sustain learning motivation and prevent detrimental patterns such as procrastination. While occasional limitations in human-like empathy are evident, ChatGPT’s role as a conversational partner offers a distinct advantage, particularly in contexts where emotional support is otherwise inaccessible.
